Rant inside.
For the amount of people on the FP that were oogling over the Z/28, Z06, Z06 'vert, the new Cadillacs, and upcoming V models, they sure do think GM should've died now that they know the government lost money saving them. Because the hundreds of billions of dollars we spend on the military being involved in wars that aren't our problem is more important than saving a company that has millions of jobs around the world.
I'm just gonna stick to Oppo.
Have Z06.

I'm starting to like GM less and less for several reasons, and liking them for others, but all the idiots/assholes commenting on the FP has driven me to spend more time on Oppo. I like you guys better. lol :)

this is what i was talking about in a big article i wrote a ways back about how the government lost money on GM. Everyone freaked on me and said yeah well ford benefited too! (in snarky annoying little kid voice). Yeah, from loans that they had to pay back, and not at an 11billion + loss at the government.
people lose there minds over this whole thing STILL.

It has turned worse and worse over the past half year. It wasn't pretty to begin with but now it has descended to (or below) youtube comment levels.

GM payed back the amount the government said they owned, or so I thought. But still, 11 billion dollars is pocket change compared to what those idiots on capital hill spend on a bunch of other stupid shit.

It's sad, because there are some really interesting stories on the FP. But they all get ruined by the idiots that think they know absolutely everything.

As someone who's grown up around GM products, they'll always have my full support no matter how hard shit hit's the fan. I'll say they probably could've handled the ignition switch thing a little better in court, but it's not like they're ignoring the problem. They're moving switches out as fast as they can to fix it.
Stay on Oppo, it's just better.

The only reason I ever venture out is when Oppo is slow, or to read the Morning Shift. And the comments on todays MS was what pissed me off.

Agreed. My gripe with GM mainly comes from my observance that they haven't really been making the best products for the market. Granted, they are coming out with some great performance cars now and they have they are bringing the diesel mid-size pickup back to the US! (I want one so bad. lol) But to see a company ask for help because they didn't adapt to the market and then seemingly continue to not make the right products is disappointing. They are getting there, but not like other companies. I used to prefer GM to Ford, but not anymore. I think Ford has done an excellent job of making cars that greatly appeal to both the general market and the enthusiast niche. Couple that with them not taking a bailout, and you've got an auto company that is after my heart. lol
Sorry to sort of go off topic. I wanted to post a response to that article on FP, but didn't want to deal with the barrage of ignorant replies (peppered with maybe a few replies that have a rational approach).

i agree completely.
especially their own salaries, which they keep FOR LIFE.
oh and they can pass their own raises, and they would be the only ones that could cut their own pay, or cancel the "for life" salaries.

There are definitely some products in their portfolio that need some work (Equinox, Terrain, Cruze, Malibu, Express, Savana, SRX, and Verano) but most of those are due for a refresh in the next few years that'll hopefully make them a better overall product. Some of those cars have been around since before their Bankruptcy or right afterwards.
I guess I have a thing for companies that we're weeks away from closing but end up coming back swinging, because Chrysler is another company that I like.

What? That's not how the Congressional pension system works... They're maxed out at 80% pension which they can only collect after 20-25 years in service and only once they reach 50 if they retire. They can all collect a relatively small pension once they're 62 if they served five years. A house member who serves <3 terms gets nothing. It's in line with normal govt employee pensions. The average annuity is something like 40k for people who qualified.
I've seen this before and always wonder where it comes from.

No, not really. I can remember election years all the way back to 1964, and I can tell you for sure that before the 2000s I never, never saw legislators and pitchmen for either political party openly hoping for and cheering the bankruptcies of America's biggest corporations, nor did I ever see legislators of either party ever respond to a business recession with policies deliberately intended to keep unemployment high. Even the maniacs who impeached Bill Clinton over a blow job didn't intentionally work to raise the jobless rate. There's just something special about President Obama that has brought the craziness of the opposition to such a fever pitch; gosh, I wonder what it might be?

See, I think Chrysler is doing a better job than GM is. I think their cars a more appealing both visually and in terms of performance. Ford>Chrysler>GM. My domestic rankings. Although I'm generally a Japanese import fan, Ford has worked its way into the ranks of my favorite manufacturers. Oddly enough, Hyundai seems to be trying to become a contender for one of those positions as well. haha

The more you know, thanks for providing proper information.
I still think they make too much money at an average of 174k a year in 2012. The amount of work they actually do vs pay they receive seems way high.
Same time I'm glad they pay into their pensions and all the other points made in your link.

Yeah, it's getting worse. I have been at a battle with some guy over Hydrogen vs. electric vehicles in our very distant future. His arguments are... weak at best.
This keeps happening when I post to the front page.

Chrysler has to be my favorite of the domestic companies right now. They're trying their hardest to come back as the best of the best, and I think they're achieving it. The Grand Cherokee's level of luxury rivals the best the German's have to offer. They're the last company making TWO american RWD V8 sedans. And you can't go without mentioning the SRT division and their masterpieces. It's hard to believe that just a few years ago they we're making some of the worst cars in the world. In terms of a comeback, they've definitely came back swinging. Hard.

Agreed. Seeing as I'm on the lower price end for potential cars though, I'd like to have seen the Dart and 200 be a bit more of contenders against the Fiesta and Focus STs. They are both quality cars, but making a much more performance oriented trim would have been really nice to see. Perhaps in time.

The Dart really just needs the 3.2 PentaStar dropped under the hood. Those little 4 cylinder engines aren't cutting it. The 2.4 is okay, but the 3.2 would make a great Dart SRT6

> Logansteno: Bought a VW?
04/30/2014 at 14:32 | 0 |
I could definitely see that being a sweet car, especially if they put a 6-spd manual in it. The Dart has potential, Chrysler just needs to decide they really want to pursue the enthusiast market. Given their relatively recent big push into rally/rallycross, sponsoring Pastrana, this would seem like a smart way to go. It seemed like they hoped having a rally racing "Dart" would be enough to push the car, and I know a few people who bought them somewhat based off that, but the performance wasn't there to back it up. Maybe after seeing the huge success Ford has had with the Focus ST, and now Fiesta ST, they will decide its a market they want to pursue. *fingers crossed*

Yeah, the Sonic RS seems to be marketed like a little hot hatch but can't hold a candle to the Fiesta ST. To be fair though, Chevy didn't have a great 4cyl engine platform to work with like Ford did.

That would be good. Someone at Chevy needs to get on this. However, it won't be out soon enough, and I just really like the Fords, so I am still planning on buying a Focus ST this summer. lol
